And yet, no coyotes

In the course of this (good God is it over yet?) training cycle, I set out with one objective. Well, one objective other than finishing the race - because that's obvious, right? I wanted to see a coyote. There are several small packs living in the parks near my house, and I was pretty sure I'd have at least one coyote sighting, especially earlier in the year, when the pups living by one of my favorite restrooms were out playing in western edge of Golden Gate Park. I've seen them before, and they're beautiful animals.

Over the past however many weeks I've been training, I've seen lots of cool things.

I've walked along quiet trails.

I've seen (and heard) the parrots of Telegraph Hill. Many times.

I've seen the effects of a King tide.
Aquatic Park. There's usually a lot more beach there.

I've walked in new spots
Shadow Cliffs at sunrise.

And enjoyed some I hadn't visited in years.
Lake Merced.
I've raced a questionable 5K, a 10K, and the Nike Women's Half Marathon. I've logged countless miles. And I've been charged by a couple of dogs. However, as of this morning, on my last trek at home before packing my sneakers and heading west, I still have not seen a coyote. But I'm not waiting around for another chance. It's cold here, and I'm ready to race. Bring on my marathon!

  1. Such beautiful sights!

Come to Texas. We'll go out early - I see a coyote probably every other week. I'll arrange for a (friendly) pack to trot by us! :0)

  2. I'm there! I have a goal of visiting all the states in the union, and Texas may be on my list for this year. I'll keep you posted.

  3. You should come to visit us in Boulder! There are signs out on the trail warning people about the coyotes. They're particularly wily this year!
