After spending the better part of the last month trying to sort out my problem, I've come up with several causes:
- My saddle was ever-so-slightly crooked. Well, this explains many very painful things.
- The same saddle, though terrific for most of the female cycling population, is not well suited to my anatomy.
- I've dropped close to 10 pounds. Turns out, bike shorts that are too big will chafe. Incessantly. Despite consistent chamois butter application. Perhaps I should have checked out a scale sooner.
I am not excited about wearing new shorts for the first time on such a long ride. I'm also not too excited about doing further damage to my butt. But I've also been off my bike for five consecutive days, and I miss it. I'm not expecting it to be as comfortable as my couch, but I'd like to avoid any more searing pain.
Have I missed anything? Can I do anything else to keep my rear comfortable? Can anybody help?
